New Hampshire Legalizes Civil Unions

The governor of New Hampshire approved legislation on Wednesday that recognizes civil unions for same-sex partners. This makes New Hampshire the fourth state in the nation to legally recognize same-sex unions. But what makes New Hampshire unique is that the new law would also honor civil unions/domestic partnerships from other states.

"I've listened and I heard all the arguments," said Governor John Lynch. "I do not believe that this bill threatens marriage. I believe that this is a matter of conscience and of fairness. It is never too soon to act to prevent discrimination."

New Hampshire is now the fifth state in the country to recognize same-sex unions. California, Connecticut and Vermont recognize civil unions/domestic partnerships and Massachusetts recognizes full marriage equality.
